David Hare joined the St. Johnsbury Band in 1995 and is currently the band Manager.
David learned snare drumming locally with George McLure in the 1960's and returned to concert percussion in 1994, taking lessons from Phil Brown. He has attended several percussion workshops including the Eastern Field Music School, the KOSA Percussion Workshop where he focused on Latin music, and the Don Hubbard Field Music School. David plays snare drum, congas, timbales, bongos, bones, and many percussion accessories affectionately known as "the toys".
In addition to the St. Johnsbury Band, he plays with the Danville Town Band and "sits in" occasionally with area concert bands. He also plays rudimental drumming with the Vermont Civil War Hemlocks, the 6th New Hampshire Vols, adds percussion to the Pumpkin Hill Singers, and occasionally the Camp Lincoln String Band and a local contra dance band "The Parsnips".
"I am eternally grateful to the many drummers I have met and worked with who have been so free in sharing their talents and love of drumming, especially Don Allen. I am left in awe of their abilities and their art of embellishing and keeping time."
